I was advised to change my diet during pregnancy, close to a Keto one. I believe this helped my seizures. It’s often advised for children with epilepsy or those with drug resistant epilepsy. I was given many extra scans during pregnancy including at 34 weeks a scan actually on my daughter’s brain within the womb. This is due to my epilepsy being caused by a brain condition. It was a scary time but I advise anyone to do so if offered and to also ask for extra scans.
If your seizures are much higher just before and during your period time (mine are hugely triggered with hormones) this may be a trigger during pregnancy or possibly like for me be a time of less seizures. My seizures were the least they’ve ever been during pregnancy and then increased again after. I only had 2 tonic clonics during pregnancy. They believe this was because my hormones were highly increased but stable after the first 12 weeks.
My last tonic clonic during pregnancy I managed to have my hands around my tummy and did break my nose but i think due the adrenaline I refused pain meds when they pushed it back.
I requested a planned C-section which I believe was the best decision I made. There is no worry of having a seizure during the hours of labour. If you want that then push. After pregnancy it healed well even after tonic clonic seizures soon after.

I had seizures still during my pregnancy. I think the most frustrating part of it all was the lack of knowledge from my OBGYN. They made it feel like my case was so uncommon. If i had a seizure they would consistently say “thats for your neurologist to know”, why wouldn't they care to know? Also the lack of communication between both teams even though they were the same company.

Trough bloodwork was done before getting pregnant to help understand where a “safe level” of medicine was for me during pregnancy. Bloodwork was done monthly and if levels dipped below what was safe my dosage was increased. Tapering was quick post-delivery, but I am still on a slightly higher dose of 1 medication for extra coverage in the newborn stage while facing sleep deprivation, stress, etc.

got off of depakote within the first few weeks. found out at 5/6 weeks along. healthy three year old!
I'm a 30 year old mum to a beautiful 4 year old daughter.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy aged 13 from the start I was advised if I wanted children I should plan for them, as I was told I had higher chances of them having conditions such as down syndrome and cleft lip.
In 2019 myself and my boyfriend decided to plan having a child we decided because of all the planning tests extra scans tests during the pregnancy I only wanted 1.
In 2021 I fell pregnant with my daughter (she had until her due date/hospital appointment until we gave up). Unfortunately it was the pandemic. We was treated well and yes I had to have extra tests, scans etc and all the way though baby was perfect. However during this time all the information I was given was US based (I live in the UK) which then scared me as how can I trust a system I know nothing about. So from then on I had to trust my gut, from the information I've been given over the years.
Thankfully everything went well until I had to have this glucose test thing. I had an experience I've never had before I passed out during this test, again everything was fine.
I didn't have a seizure at all throughout my pregnancy. Longest time ever.
My labour was simple although I was told to possibly be prepared for a c-section but it wasn't needed. I don't remember much in all honesty.
She's now 4, happy, healthy and an attitude to match the family.
It's not as scary as you might think
I think the best advice I was given was to plan, plan, plan. Then you can have all angles covered. So that's my advice to you
I have 4kids the first one I had I put up for adoption she ended up having high functioning autistim my son has ADHD since he was a younger and he is 13 and my daughter has inattentive adhd I have complex adhd and atypical absence seizure along with tonic clonic and severe migraines

I was blessed. My pregnancy went really well. I have Focal and Catamenial (Hormone) Epilepsy and my body/brain was happy with the rise in Progesterone. Due to seizures being triggered by stress (I get Grand mal seizures) my neurologist arranged with my OBGYN for me to have induced labor so that they both can be there at the birth and that I can be monitored. I requested epidural for pain management because pain is a "stresser". So I felt no pain. The labor went well and my baby girl is healthy.

I was induced with this baby as my first had come early. However she took 33 hours to get out. Perfectly healthy and straight to the boob when born.
RapidRiver312 Sep, 2025HealthyFrisium, Keppra
In both pregnancies my keppra needed to be increased several times during the pregnancies. Frisium was added when I had serious cluster of over 50 focal aware seizures. I was 19 weeks with my first and I had just got married, so quite a lot going on. My keppra was increased then also.

I did not find out I was pregnant until I was already 15 weeks. I had no complications during my pregnancy, and my little girl was born perfectly healthy 7 pounds 0.3 ounces.
This was my 2nd pregnancy and 1st with levetracetam. In both pregnancies 2nd trimester was the worst, with this pregnancy having 1 tonic clonic seizure a week in this period. When I started to take the medication morning, noon and night (lamotrogine morning and noon, levtracetam at night) the hormone effects and seizures reduced significantly. Spreading them out seemed to work more effectively than the usual twice daily recommendation.
fairly easy pregnancy, no morning sickness. I was again advised to have an induction if I went beyond my due date. that was scheduled for the day before my due date, although I think labor would have started close to that anyway; I had lost the mucus plug the day before the induction. Baby girl, 8lbs 5oz.
She's now four, on the smaller side around 25th percentile growth charts, but she dr isn't concerned as she's staying along her growth chart and growing. She knows all her letters and can count to 35.

I dealt with a very small sub chorionic hematoma in my first trimester, it resolved quickly and I was not placed on pelvic rest or bed rest in regards to the hematoma. I had hyperemisis gravidarum in this pregnancy and that effectively kept me home bound and unable to work or even drive. I had to schedule my entire life around this condition and had a short list of safe foods I could eat. I lost 20lbs in pregnancy before I finally started gaining weight like I needed to. My daughter was born at just over 39 weeks, after 28 hours of labor. I was not induced, but I was given pitocin in labor because contractions stalled soon after I was admitted. I did not take an epidural, but I did take Benadryl in my IV and I did also allow a dose of IV pain medication after being started on a higher dose of pitocin, in hopes of being able to sleep some since I was already severely sleep deprived and sleep deprivation is a trigger for me. Hospital staff almost caused me to seize in labor because they refused me my meds for several hours. My daughter weighed 7lbs and 7.8 ounces, and was 20&1/2 inches in length. APGAR scores were normal but she displayed jaundice within the first few hours after birth. My daughter screamed essentially non stop for hours at a time, classifying her as a colicky baby. I slept in 1/2 hour intervals until she was at least 6-9 months of age. Her birth is still considered to be a big source of trauma for me. I developed severe postpartum depression and anxiety and I struggled to bond with my daughter. I still believe that my experience would have been different had the hospital not been determined to try to coerce me into a C-section simply because of my epilepsy even though I was not symptomatic or at risk. I managed to have a vaginal delivery, without epidural, in spite of their attempts.
NobleValley830 Aug, 2025HealthyKeppra xr
I gauged timing of my medication dosing to when I had the least amount of heart burn and nausea. This pregnancy had a few small hiccups but these are things I don’t feel were due to me being epileptic or on medication for my epilepsy. The issues I had in pregnancy were a sub chorionic hemorrhage and a low lying placenta which was initially classified as a borderline placenta previa/placenta previa marginalis/marginal previa. I was placed on modified bed rest/pelvic rest and had extra ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy. Bed rest lasted until the bleed subsided and also until it was confirmed that the growth of my uterus shifted the placenta far enough from the cervix to allow for a safe vaginal birth.
My son was born without complications. My labor was less than 12 hours in duration and the only medication in my system was my epilepsy medication. I had an unmedicated birth. Spontaneous vaginal delivery. He was born full term at 40 weeks, on his due date. He was 9lbs 1ounce in weight, and 21&1/2 inches in length. Head circumference was appropriate, and I will note that he was large as a result of genetics (I am tall and so is his father), I did not gain too much weight in pregnancy and I did not have gestational diabetes or insulin resistance issues. I chose to labor at home until I was in transition (dilated to around 8cm) and upon admission to the hospital it took less than an hour for him to arrive. He was born on hands and knees and cried immediately. His APGAR scores were perfect and he latched to nurse well within his first hour.

The most important thing I can share is having a support system in place, people you know will show up in a moments notice pregnancy with epilepsy was difficult but also very rewarding knowing my body made it through and my baby boy was healthy I personally also wouldn’t recommend the epidural In my experience it was terrifying I’m not sure if the medication from the epidural mixed bad with the keppra but I thought I was going to die I had to have an emergency C-section due to my blood pressure dropping which then triggered a seizure it looked like I had a stroke after I was out for recovery research and knowledge is your best friend
I am having 3-5 spacial seizures a week that makes me forget everything. My whole pregnancy though it actually stopped them. I seen a high risk doctor, which im sure all of you will as well. And it was very important to keep them. Now after my pregnancy my body did some kind of change, obviously through the whole pregnancy phase, and I ended up having one that ended up with me being in the hospital for 3 days. But a side note dont listen to doctors who tell you you cant breast feed. I was told by the one I had that I wasnt allowed to. Then I got pregnant with a second and was asked why I didn't and explained and he said you do know what your baby is swimming in and absorbing in your stomach right? He told me it would have been perfectly fine. Just an outsiders looking in perspective that missed a great opportunity bc one neurologist told me no and the one who told me yes I unfortunately miscarriaged
I seen my neurologist every trimester during my pregnancy and had my levels checked frequently.
I did not have to increase my medication as I always stayed in the therapeutic level.
I had an elective c section as I was nervous about having a seizure while giving birth.
I never had any seizures throughout my pregnancy and was seizure free for 5 years prior.
I'm currently 12pp and have a healthy baby and breastfeeding

I had severe I mean severe hypermesis gravidarum during this pregnancy. I did NOT have any seizures or auras during or after the pregnancy and as with my 1st baby I missed both doses more then I'd like to admit. The baby was born 7 days early on 11/23/22 & weighed 7lb 1oz.
GoldenStream152 Jul, 2025HealthyLevetiracetam
I took the generic of Keppra before my pregnancy, during my pregnancy and after my pregnancy. I did miss both doses on more days then I like to admit but thankfully never had a seizure while pregnant or had auras of one about 2 come soon. My child was born 3 days overdue 4/11/2012 and weighed 6lb 2oz. The reason for a light baby bring 3 days over due was Iived in Florida at the time and was pregnant in the summer none the less I failed 2 stay hydrated and I also had hypermesis gravidarum but not bad enough to have to go tor the er for a saline drip but due to the hypermesis I couldn't eat properly. She is now 13 years old and in still perfect health. I was 20 when I git pregnant and I turned 21 3 weeks before my chikd was born.
This pregnancy was my second and completely unexpected. I was approximately 12 weeks pregnant at my first kiddos birthday. Again I was not aware that anti epileptic medications decreased the efficacy of birth control. This pregnancy was a healthy pregnancy with a healthy birth epidural and all. I did have a few seizures during this pregnancy but I had a one year old that didn’t sleep also. She is two now and our only problem has again been ear infections but ear tubes fixed the problem. She is appropriate developmentally for a two year old. Walks, talks and plays with all the other children. She is a fast learner and knows what buttons to press. I personally have had more trouble after this pregnancy. Around 9 months I began having more seizures than I’ve ever had however I had many large life stressors that could have been a huge cause as well. Two children under two is no joke also!
My first little one will be four soon. I had a great pregnancy and normal birthing experience, epidural and all. At the time it was not widely known that anti epileptic medications decreased the efficacy of birth control. Luckily I was already taking the folic acid that is recommended for women of child bearing age. I had been seizure free for about a year at the time of this pregnancy and remained seizure free until about three or four months after baby was born. She will be four soon and so far has met all her “milestones” and is what I would consider a normal kid. She is active, makes friends, talks non stop and her only true problem has been ear infections but that runs in the family.

Choruję na epilepsję uogólnioną. Ataki wystepują do 3 razy w roku.

Warto robić stężenie leku we krwi. Przyrost wagi daje swoje i hormony również.
Warto robic wszystkie badania

In the 1st trimester I took levetiracetam (Normeg), I got to 1500-0-1500. In addition, clonazepam 0.5mg when I had aura (about 5 times a month), attacks intensified during pregnancy, in the 3rd trimester I took Oxepilax, I got to 450-0-450. The child was born by cesarean section in the 38th week (doctors were afraid to risk a natural birth), got an Apgar scale of 7,7,8,9, in the 4th month low muscle tone was diagnosed, we went to rehabilitation - exercises, such physiotherapy to help the child move. Later everything is fine and on time, he is developing according to expectations.
