This was my third child . Previous pregnancies were without medicines. I was Misdiagnosed with epilepsy for 20 years. Diagnosed from 2004-2024. Last pregnancy was 2006-2007. I was advised to continue with meds throughout my pregnancy but I refused. Lmp was Sept 1 , 2006 and medication was stopped on Nov 3, 2006. I was not informed about any complications during pregnancy other than gestational diabetes and was advised to lower my sugar intake because baby was expected to be large. He was born at 4lbs 14 oz @ full term, quite unexpected weight wise. I didn't learn about IUGR until last year , when I requested his medical records , it was written in these records. His little body looked twisted. His chest was pointing outward in the center and his head was tilted. I was told it was just the way he was lying in the womb and would look better once he gained some weight. I took him to my family doctor on many occasions asking him why he looked out of portion and his head was bulging behind one ear and caved behind the other. I was told I need to rotate him from side to side . This went on for months and months. Finally, we were sent to a specialist, who informed me that we could have a helmet made for him but it would be chained to the ceiling during the night ! We were misled about this treatment and therefore we refused. We believe our son was born with scoliosis although it wasn't diagnosed until he was 10. We were also told that his curve was 58 degrees right up until corrective surgery. This was another lie. His records show that his curve was above 84-90 degrees. Very severe scoliosis. He is almost 18 years old now and graduating high school next month. He struggled all the way through school from being teased to learning difficulties. He also has insulin resistance and a fatty liver. From what I learned in my research from tegretol exposure to a fetus is that you do not need to take tegretol during the whole pregnancy as the most damage is done within the first trimester. We love our presious boy, he has a heart of gold . He loves to laugh and make you laugh even harder. life can be hard sometimes but you just learn to go with the flow. I just wish that moms like me had better doctors, mine was crap.
